This was done at a studio in my hometown of Preston, UK. It was drawn by an artist I found online called Willem, and was tattooed by Anthony Noble an artist at the studio and friend.
It’s crazy how easy it is to forget that the elderly were once our age, living out their dreams.
I’ve been following this blog for a while, silently reading everyone’s stories—and I have to say, you’ve all be so very inspiring to me. To share your stories, as well as your beautiful bodies—it’s so brave!
You all have gotten me thinking about my own body, my struggles with finding myself, and being confident with it. Instead of submitting a photo of myself, I wanted to do a little drawing, since art is the best way I can express myself and has been so helpful on my journey.
I am 5 foot 9 inches tall, about 210 pounds, and I wear a size 18/20 pants. Like many of you, I’ve had my fair share of harassment and bullying. I went through a long stage where I had NO idea who I really was—I had zero confidence and I was so terrified of being rejected. I changed my whole persona from day to day, just to fit in with whoever I hung around.
I’ve always been so negative about my body, thinking “Oh, I can’t be beautiful and stylish because I wear plus sized clothing”, or “no one will love me because I don’t have a ‘perfect’ body”.
But the more I think about it, the more I see all of you being brave and joining the revolution…the more I’m beginning to see that these were all lies!
I am a fat and sassy redhead. And I am beautiful! I want to take the negativity out of being fat, and out of the word itself. Better yet, I want to take the negativity out of being MYSELF.
Whether you’re fat, skinny, average, tall, short, man or woman, black white brown or purple—you are beautiful, and you are loved. And don’t let ANYONE tell you differently.
Embrace your differences, and the difference of everyone around you. Compliment your friends, family, and anyone you meet—it could make the difference in their quests to making peace with their bodies!
Thank you all so much for being the beautiful things you are. If you ever need to talk, or just want to stop by to say hey, you can find my blog here!
